Why Your Safari Website Gets Traffic But Not Bookings
If you’ve looked at your website analytics and seen decent traffic but a thin trickle of inquiries, you’re not alone. Most safari operators we work with have this exact problem, and it’s rarely a traffic problem.
Here’s what’s usually going on.
Your homepage answers the wrong question first
A visitor lands on your site because they’re already interested in a safari. They don’t need to be sold on the idea of a safari. They need to know, fast, whether your specific property fits the trip they’re picturing. If your homepage opens with a slideshow of scenery and a generic welcome message before it says anything about location, experience type, or what a stay actually includes, you’ve already lost several seconds of attention you didn’t have to spare.
Lead with what makes a stay at your property specific: the region, the kind of wildlife experience, who it suits, and roughly what it costs. Travelers researching a safari are comparing several properties in open tabs. Make the comparison easy in your favor.
The inquiry form asks for too much, too soon
A long form with twenty fields feels like paperwork, not the start of a trip. Ask for what you need to send a useful reply, ideally travel dates, group size, and email, and leave the rest for the conversation that follows. Every extra required field is a reason to close the tab instead.
There’s no clear next step after “browse”
Many safari websites are built like brochures: pages of information with no clear point where a visitor is nudged to act. Every page, not just the homepage, needs one obvious next step. If someone is reading your camp’s detail page, there should be an inquiry button right there, not three clicks away on a separate contact page.
Response time undoes good marketing
This isn’t strictly a website issue, but it shows up in website conversion numbers. If an inquiry sits unanswered for two days while a ground agent replies to the same traveler in two hours, your website did its job and lost the booking anyway. A website built to convert has to be paired with a system for actually following up, which is the subject of our inquiry and booking systems work.
If you want a second pair of eyes on where your own site is losing inquiries, that’s exactly what we look at in a strategy call.
